As a Senior Software Engineer you will serve as a leader, mentor, and expert implementer on our Platform Team. Lead a talented group of engineers to develop the rich web application that delivers a world-class coding curriculum to tens of thousands of teachers and students around the country. Use cutting-edge technologies to provide the best possible experience to both our external customers and dedicated staff.

In this role, you will...

  • Impact the lives of tens of thousands of elementary, middle, and high school students by supporting their teachers to provide them with learning pathways to professional coding jobs.
  • Collaborate with our curriculum, engineering, product management, teacher success, and user experience teams to push computer science education to new heights of instruction and engagement.
  • Apply your software design, development, and deployment expertise to the architecture and infrastructure of our world class learning platform.
  • Lead your colleagues in creating robust software, refining engineering processes, and sustaining our productive and vibrant company culture.

As a software engineer, you will...

  • Collaborate with product and project leaders to prioritize work items in the team backlog.
  • Lead the development of complex software projects that have strategic value for the company.
  • Implement features, troubleshoot issues, and fix bugs in our teaching and learning platform.
  • Delight teachers, students, and school leaders with the software you ship.

  • Grow the software engineers around you through mentorship and sponsorship.
  • Influence product and engineering decisions with effective reasoning and communication.
  • Advocate for code maintainability, scalability, resilience, security, and overall quality.

Professional Skills

Web Application Development

  • Expertise with a backend web framework such as Django or equivalent.
  • Expertise with a relational database such as MySQL or equivalent.
  • Expertise with a cloud service provider such as Amazon Web Services or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Proficiency with a frontend web framework such as Vue or equivalent.

Software Engineering Practices

  • Expertise with Git and a repository hosting service such as GitHub or equivalent.
  • Expertise with Docker, containerization workflows, and infrastructure-as-code technologies.
  • Expertise with iterative design, incremental development, automated testing, code reviews, and continuous integration.

And have the following relevant experience...

  • At least four years of industry experience as a software engineer.
  • As this is a full-time role, applicants must have work authorization to work in the US (we cannot sponsor work visas)

This is a full-time, remote position. We are seeking applicants who can collaborate with our team Monday–Friday between the hours of 9 AM to 5 PM Pacific Standard Time.
